Last month I wrote my column on a rainy day and now here we are with the summer weather having started in earnest. Some people say the start of summer is the sight of butterflies, chicks, lambs and calves but at our house it is the dog jumping onto the top step in the pool to cool down.
Aaah... I hear you say - not when she then jumps onto the sofa to dry herself. I now have a lounge that smells like wet dog!
I have dipped my big toe in the pool but it will have to heat up significantly before I am tempted to go in.
My Spanish is not that bad but I have decided to try to understand more about the Spanish I know. I learned from listening and not from text books, but now want to understand the difference between the preterite and the imperfect, and the subjunctive v. indicative. I know that I will be better with this knowledge but sometimes I wonder why I started down this path. I still cannot understand why any language needs more than one future and past tense (apparently I only use 4 of the 7+ pasts which are available in Spanish) and would vote for any politician whose policy was based on simplifying the language.
Did you know that in Spanish being dead is not a permanent state.....
